METRIS PLUS project addressed common challenges in environmental field in Adriatic cross-border area, by creating cross-border partnership and problem solving approach involving five different cross-border regions. Project activities contributed to priority one of the operational program dealing with strengthening research and innovation, by means of increasing levels of competences, encouraging the transfer of innovation and creating networks between the institutional and research sectors by promoting joint research activities in the cross-border area.
What has been done during the project in order to achieve its main goal(s)?
Within the project different state of the art analyses were implemented regarding the topics of eco-innovation and related waste water treatment methodologies on cross-border level.
During the project five regional case studies, one case study on international cooperation and one document analyzing summarized results of five regional case studies were prepared. Starting from the collected data, cross-border partners set up strategic goals in the field of environmental research and put basis for setting up of cross-border team of R&D experts that developed guidelines for research and methodology definition of the pilot action.
Pilot action included construction and on-site testing of eco-innovative prototype of small waste water treatment tank (in Pula, Croatia).
Which are the main project results/impacts?
Major project achievements are related to the common pilot action within WP5 and WP6. A cross-border team of R&D experts was set up to be involved in research activities and common preparation and implementation of the pilot project dealing with construction of small waste water treatment tank, that was tested for potential eco-innovation and as such applicable for solving water pollution issues in interested partner regions.
Cross-border teams of experts prepared jointly one special report dealing with scientific result of the pilot action which is applicable in all cross-border regions. Regarding this, best transfer of know-how was obtained with Bosnian partner SERDA, since Sarajevo area has great problems with water pollution and effective waste water treatment techniques. Italian and Slovenian partners helped with their advanced experience in developing eco-innovative concept of waste water treatment in cross-border area.
State of the art analyses in waste water treatment in different cross-border regions gave a new insight into the environmental problems in the cross-border area, thus giving opportunity for developing quality solutions for eco-innovation in waste water management.
Special training of research and development team of experts and project partners was prepared to develop quality pilot actions with the aim to solve environmental issues in Adriatic cross-border area.
